چکیده

We present the results of the management of 17 relapsed club feet in 12 children using the Ilizarov method with gradual distraction and realignment of the joint. Review at a mean of three years after surgery showed maintenance of correction with excellent or good results in 13 feet. Five mobile feet which had been treated by a split transfer of the tibialis anterior tendon two weeks after removal of the frame had an excellent result.

Relapsed clubfoot correction with soft-tissue release and selective application of Ilizarov technique

The Ilizarov technique is an alternative for the treatment of complex foot deformities in children. The authors retrospectively reviewed children with relapsed clubfoot deformity, treated with soft tissue procedures and additional correction with an Ilizarov frame. Twelve consecutive patients (13 feet) with relapsed clubfoot deformity after previous surgical correction were reviewed. Treatment ...

A Preliminary Report

Between 1994 and 1997 we used the Ilizarov apparatus to treat 12 recurrent arthrogrypotic club feet in nine patients with a mean age of 5.3 years (3.2 to 7). After a mean of three weeks (two to seven) for correction of the deformity and 1.5 weeks (one to four) for stabilisation in the apparatus, immobilisation in a cast was carried out for a mean of 14 weeks (7 to 24). The mean follow-up period...

Assessment of Ilizarov correction of club-foot deformity using pedobarography. A preliminary report.

Relapsed congenital talipes equinovarus is difficult to assess and treat. Pedobarography provides dynamic measurement of the pressures under the foot, and may be used in the assessment of these patients both before and after operation. Our findings showed a statistically significant difference in the distribution of pressure across the foot after treatment by the Ilizarov technique.

The correction of the relapsed club foot by closed distraction

Correction of a relapsed clubfoot deformity by distraction with an external fixator is a recognized alternative to open surgery. Most published series report a good outcome but none are prospective observational studies using the scoring system of the International Clubfoot Study Group (ICFSG). We present a series of 9 relapsed club feet treated with closed gradual distraction using this scorin...

Residual deformity in congenital radial club hands after previous centralisation of the wrist. Ulnar lengthening and correction by the Ilizarov method.

We used the Ilizarov method in seven patients with severe congenital radial club hands who had had previous wrist surgery, to correct residual shortening and bowing of the ulna together with recurrent wrist deformity. The mean age at operation was 6.5 years. The mean ulnar shortening was 5.3 cm and the mean angular deformity 42 degrees. The mean length gained was 51% of the original ulna. The m...
